The family-hauler chassis are the highest-volume ENET vehicles on the road — and the most-coded after the 3-Series.
Every 5-Series from the F10 (2010+) and every X5 from the F15 (2013+) is an Ethernet/DoIP vehicle — the same ENET cable connects to all four generations below. The split that matters is F-era (E-SYS, wide-open FDL coding) versus G-era (S15A, slightly restricted on newest firmware).
| Chassis | Years | Coding Platform | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| F10 5-Series | 2010–2017 | E-SYS + ISTA+ | The classic coding platform — everything documented |
| F15 X5 | 2013–2018 | E-SYS + ISTA+ | Same toolchain as F10, huge community knowledge base |
| G30 5-Series | 2016+ | E-SYS (S15A) + ISTA+ | Most functions open; CarPlay fullscreen very popular |
| G05 X5 | 2018+ | E-SYS (S15A) + ISTA+ | Some newest-firmware ECUs restricted; diagnostics unaffected |
