ISTA+ is BMW's diagnostic brain — and it talks to your F/G-Series over plain Ethernet. This guide gets the connection right the first time.
ISTA+ (ISTA Plus / Rheingold) is the dealer diagnostic platform for BMW. On F and G-Series cars it connects to the vehicle gateway (ZGW/BDC) over DoIP — which means a standard BMW ENET cable is the native interface, not a workaround. The same cable you use for E-SYS coding carries full ISTA diagnostics.

ISTA+ routes its vehicle communication through Ediabas. In the Ediabas configuration, the interface must be set to ENET (Remote / network interface), with the standard ZGW search behaviour. Most pre-configured ISTA+ distributions ship this way; if yours was previously used with a K+DCAN cable on E-Series cars, the interface setting is the first thing to check.
Do not set a static IP unless you know exactly why — the ZGW hands out link-local addresses and DHCP-automatic is the reliable default for direct cable connections.
