For 2017+ coding, diagnostics and CCF work — yes, including TOPIx Cloud via the ENET addon. For CAN-era vehicles, module flashing and online dealer programming — no, you need the VCI.

Is flashing over ENET safe?

Wired ENET with a battery maintainer is used daily for flashing by professionals. The risks come from voltage sag and wireless dropouts — control both and the link itself is solid. For high-stakes or high-volume flashing, VCI isolation is worth it.

Why is the VCI so expensive?

It is an active computer with multi-protocol transceivers (DoIP, CAN, K-Line, LIN), galvanic isolation, firmware updates and official support — a different product category from a passive adapter.
