Video in Motion: The Most-Requested Coding

Unlock video playback while driving for your passengers — the exact module values for NBT EVO and MGU head units.

01 / BEFORE YOU START

Legal Note & What You Need

Video in motion is intended for passengers. In many jurisdictions the driver watching video while driving is illegal — check your local law and code responsibly. Technically, the change is a single parameter family in the head unit, applied over the ENET connection with E-SYS, or one tap in Bimmercode.

02 / E-SYS METHOD

The E-SYS FDL Steps

StepDetail
1. ConnectENET cable, E-SYS connected to the car's target ECU: HU_NBT_EVO or HU_MGU
2. Read FA & SVTRead the vehicle order, then the ECU list — standard E-SYS workflow
3. Read coding dataRead the head unit's FDL data (always keep the untouched backup)
4. Edit speedlockSet the video speedlock values to the unlocked state (both thresholds)
5. Write & verifyWrite FDL, let the head unit reboot, test playback at low speed
If video still locks: a second speedlock parameter exists on some firmware — both must be edited. Full parameter walkthroughs are in the community wikis linked from our hidden features guide.
03 / BIMMERCODE METHOD

The One-Tap Route

Bimmercode exposes video in motion as an expert-mode coding on supported head units: connect the Type-C or WiFi adapter, select the head unit ECU, toggle the setting, code, done. The app backs up stock values automatically — restore takes the same 30 seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does video in motion work on iDrive 8?
iDrive 8 (newest G-Series) has more locked modules; availability depends on firmware. Diagnostics and most other codings are unaffected — check the G20 coding list for the current state.
Will this affect my rear camera or PDC?
No — the speedlock parameters only gate front-display video sources. Camera and parking functions are separate and untouched.
Can I revert it?
Yes — restore the FDL backup in E-SYS or tap restore in Bimmercode. Always keep the original coding file.
